Case Study: North Texas Behavioral Health (NTBHA)

Delivered

Designed a custom WordPress website currently in QA testing, incorporating a mobile-first UX/UI framework, user-centered navigation, and market research–informed design. The work includes identifying and configuring supporting widgets, plugins, and custom solutions aligned with NTBHA’s mission to provide equitable mental and behavioral health services regardless of ability to pay, location, or housing status.

The Opportunity

North Texas Behavioral Health Authority (NTBHA) serves individuals and families in urgent situations where access to clear, reliable information is critical. The organization needed a public-facing digital platform capable of guiding people in crisis, family members, and service partners to appropriate resources across devices and locations.

During the design phase, a leadership transition introduced new priorities, including a refreshed visual direction and increased emphasis on content structure and manageability. This created an opportunity to realign the platform around mobile-first access, accessible navigation, and a scalable content model supporting NTBHA’s evolving mission.

The Solution

To address these needs, Webhead identified the importance of a simplified, content-driven information architecture supported by clear global navigation and user-based pathways to critical services. The approach emphasized mobile-first access, WCAG 2.2 and ADA Title II considerations, and a CMS structure designed to support ongoing content updates by non-technical staff. Supporting plugins, widgets, and custom integrations were selected to balance accessibility, performance, and long-term flexibility as the platform moves through QA toward launch.

Audience & Critical Journeys

Provide critical functionality that anyone in crisis can quickly and easily find the help they need.

Journey included Planning → UX and UI Design → Content Strategy → Core Development and Integration → Pre- Launch & System Setup → Quality Assurance & Testing → Closeout

Approach

The project approach included a mid-design pivot to a more structured, content-forward information architecture in response to updated leadership priorities. The sitemap and navigation were restructured around user-based access patterns with a simplified global navigation optimized for mobile use.

To maintain momentum and compress timelines, design and development workflows were integrated, with designers directly building WordPress pages to improve efficiency and ensure fidelity between UX design and implementation.
